In my search for finding new ways to view nature through photography I chose to focus on capturing the smaller, finer details. I photographed leaves that I found in Irving, TX near the Trinity River. This typology of leaves is an intimate study of the small things in nature that make up the bigger picture. It showcases diversity and detail, and praises the organic qualities of nature free from the forced linear designs of humans. It is a celebration of the unique beauty of natural form. These images also illustrate the natural process of life and death and the destruction and decay that these tiny pieces of nature experience in their harsh environment.
I know, I know! It’s not a leaf. While this acorn doesn’t follow the recurring theme of leaves in this series, it does, however, have all of the criteria that I wanted this body of work to have. It is a small piece of nature in all of its wonderful, untamed glory.
